Our multidisciplinary team of therapists and Therapeutic Climbing Instructors have created the Climbing Calm. The programme focuses on learning and developing climbing skills alongside a series of mental health and wellbeing strategies that have been developed by a Clinical Psychologist that can be delivered alongside climbing with the aim of supporting wellbeing and reducing anxiety.

Therapeutic Rock Climbing for Neurodiverse Young People

Sessions are infused with evidence based strategies to reduce anxiety and support wellbeing. Therapeutic Climbing Instructors build in opportunities for working together which reduces social isolation and develops relationships.

Sessions are led by a Therapeutic Climbing Instructor and a Therapeutic Climbing Instructor & Speech and Language Therapist. They are also attended by a Clinical Psychologist.

"The first week we saw our young person actually properly smile for the first time in ages. They barely leave the house but are keen to get to Climbing Calm so we are really pleased about that"

"Climbing Calm has been a pivotal factor in supporting my child to move forward from his suicide attempt in March. The climbing calm sessions have been a firm ladder to build the mental and emotional progress upon and have been the one thing that Z has consistently looked forward to. I think it is fair to say that it has changed both of our lives for the better"

"It’s been so good for G, learning how to manage themselves and learning how to manage anxiety. They’ve come out of themselves; they are good at it and they can work with other children learning with belaying and building relationships and trust with other children through Climbing Calm"

Therapeutic Rock Climbing for Adult Mental Health

Each week, participants are introduced to a new evidence based strategy to support their wellbeing. Therapeutic Climbing Instructors build in opportunities to practice the weekly strategy throughout the session - using the climbing wall as a tool to practice the strategy in a safe, controlled environment.

Sessions are led by a Therapeutic Climbing Instructor and a Therapeutic Climbing Instructor & Speech and Language Therapist.

"This was the best thing I've done in a long time. I learned so many skills, in managing my mental attitude as well as climbing up walls I thought were only for hardened, invested semi professionals."

"The instructors were lovely human beings, and gave meaningful but brief things to think about, which I'm still thinking about and developing, weeks later. I'd highly recommend anyone with even a nominal interest to give it a go!"

"I always loved climbing but never thought it would be a good way to manage mental health issue. It was a fantastic experience, I would definitely return to Climbing Calm again"
